Virginia is a Registered Specialist with the General Dental Council. She joined Orthodontic Excellence in 2007, becoming experienced in using lnvisalign and Incognito lingual appliances and in undertaking complex interdisciplinary cases.
Ever keen to keep abreast of modern techniques and best practice, she introduced various new techniques to the practice, including fixed class II correctors (Herbst and Powerscope), lnvisalign's functional appliance system and the Carriere appliance. Virginia has travelled to gain experience in new techniques including the TAD borne Beneslider system at the University of Dusseldorf. She has developed an interest in appliances that can mitigate snoring and support the management of sleep apnoea.
She has presented jointly with Peter at numerous postgraduate teaching and CPD events. It seemed natural that Virginia would eventually take over the ownership of the practice from Peter and this happened late in 2019.
Virginia started her dental undergraduate training at Guy's in London in 1994 and her attention to detail and manual dexterity won her the prestigious Newland Pedley Prize for Operative Dentistry. Following graduation, Virginia had a series of junior hospital positions in oral and maxillofacial surgery, paediatric dentistry, and orthodontics, as well as working in general practice. She was accepted for specialist orthodontic training at the internationally renowned Eastman Dental Institute, London in 2002.
During her training programme, she was awarded the degree of Master of Science and Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Virginia grew up in Solihull as one of 4 children whose stepfather was a general dentist. She had her heart set on becoming a dentist from a very young age; whilst at junior school she would remove her friends' wobbly teeth in the playground using green paper towels! In her teens she worked a dental nurse during the holidays, and this cemented her ambition.
Virginia understands that keeping abreast of technology in orthodontics is a never-ending process. She is an lnvisalign Diamond Provider and was an early adopter of lnvisalign for teens. Virginia was part of the Teen Edge program for the new mandibular advancement feature and first in the region to use 'lnvisalign First'. Virginia worked closely with Peter to incorporate digital scanners and eliminate impressions and plaster models at OE, with all patients being scanned from 2015 onwards. She has led the adoption of the amazing Dental Monitoring system for lnvisalign patients at OE since it became available in the UK early in 2018. Virginia will continue to incorporate cutting edge technology into the treatment systems at OE where it can be shown to enhance patient care.
Virginia feels very strongly about the importance of our actions for future generations and is leading the team here on a green crusade. She has introduced a water fountain and made the practice part of the national free water 'refill' programme, offering our practice as a leader in cutting plastic waste. Virginia has instigated the replacement of disposable surgery plastic cups with stainless steel cups that we sterilise. She will continue to review our systems at OE and reduce waste as a priority.
Away from work, Virginia is just as busy. She and her cycling-mad family are active members of the local cycling clubs to keep up with their youngest who started cycling aged two. Their eldest frequently featured in the local paper with his racing successes. He is now on the Team Great Britain Academy cycling programme and much of their spare time is spent supporting him in this. Virginia is our domestic goddess, baking wonderful cakes and other fantastic culinary creations. She loves sewing and regularly produces her own clothing designs for home and work. We are not sure what she does to relax!

Peter has been practising orthodontics since 1986. After qualifying as a specialist in 1989 he immediately set up the Warwick Road practice, making him the longest established orthodontist in Solihull. The pursuit of excellence in orthodontics has always been a passion for Peter. In addition to his clinical practice Peter has always been involved in teaching orthodontics to dentists and fellow orthodontists. This has included a total of seven years as a part-time Clinical Lecturer in Orthodontics at The Eastman and The Royal London Hospitals.
Peter has a special interest in adult orthodontics and in 2008 and 2010 he led a two-day course on this topic. He has been invited to lecture on adult orthodontics on numerous occasions by the British and Irish Orthodontic Societies as well as the universities of Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and most recently The Royal London Dental Hospital.
Peter is experienced in the use of lnvisalign, having trained in 2002. He has completed over 500 cases and is an lnvisalign Diamond Provider. In 2012 he was invited to be a founding member of the lnvisalign UK Orthodontist Advisory Board. In 2013 he became a founder member of The Invisible Orthodontist, an lnvisalign expert group for orthodontists. In 2018 he was invited to be a Clinical Speaker for lnvisalign UK.
Peter has practiced lingual orthodontics since 2002 and for 5 years was a UK mentor for the 3M Incognito lingual appliance. He has had two articles on lingual orthodontics published by the UK's orthodontic journal, the Journal of Orthodontics. Peter has received awards, winning the British Orthodontic Society's 'Against the Odds' award in 2007, coming third in 2006 and was runner up in 2009. Peter has twice been President of the Midland Orthodontic Society, in 2003 and 2018. In 1998 he set up the Royal London Orthodontic Alumni and was elected its President in 2016. Peter has been an enthusiastic attendee of the Alpine Orthodontic Conference since 2002 and has organised its academic programme since 2012.
Peter was born in the USA in 1960. His father, a chemical engineer, had fallen in love with his mother, the daughter of a Danish writer, during a trip to Europe in 1952. They married soon after settled in the USA and had Peter's older sister in 1956. Work in the oil industry took the family all over the world but after 4 happy years in early 1960s London they returned for good in 1970.
Peter was inspired at Bristol University by a great teacher of orthodontics and he dreamt of becoming an orthodontist. He married Amanda before graduating in 1982, continuing to study for a further 7 years, including 3 years of full-time orthodontic training at The Royal London Hospital graduating as a specialist in 1989. Unusually, Peter and Amanda had decided to start a family whilst still studying and after two girls, their twin boys were born in 1989. Peter wanted to settle the family and have his own practice away from London. He selected Solihull as an ideal place, produced a business plan and arranged a bank loan whilst still finishing his studies. They bought 816 Warwick Road as a house, converted the downstairs to a practice, and moved in upstairs. They opened the doors of their new practice 9 days after Peter completed his specialist training. Their fifth child was born in 1992. Peter's family is now grown up and they are all married. There are six grandchildren .... so far!
Outside of work Peter enjoys walking, reading, cycling, gardening, DIY, making balsa wood radio-controlled model aeroplanes and snowboarding.
