Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry that focuses on correcting the alignment of teeth and jaws. It involves diagnosing, preventing and treating dental and facial irregularities to improve both function and appearance.
An orthodontist is a fully trained dentist who has completed an additional 3 years of full-time specialist training after dental school. This means a minimum of 8+ years of study to become recognised by the General Dental Council as a Registered Specialist in Orthodontics. While dentists may offer some orthodontic treatments, specialists focus exclusively on straightening teeth - it's all we do, every day.
Every dentist must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC). Upon registration, the Council provides members with their own unique GDC number. You can verify any orthodontist's credentials by checking them on the GDC specialist register. All our orthodontists are listed as registered specialists.
Absolutely! There's no age limit for orthodontic treatment. We treat patients of all ages and around 50% of our patients are adults. We offer several discreet options including Invisalign clear aligners and ceramic braces.
The success of orthodontic treatment comes down to the skill of the clinician designing your treatment plan. Aligners and braces are simply tools - the expertise lies in understanding tooth movement, bite mechanics and treatment planning. A specialist orthodontist has dedicated years to this specific training. Before starting treatment anywhere, ask about their experience and qualifications.
We offer a full range of orthodontic treatments including: Invisalign (with over 16 years of experience), Angel Aligners, ceramic (tooth-coloured) braces and traditional metal braces. We'll recommend the best option for your specific case at your free consultation.
