Sleep Appliances FAQs
OSA occurs when the soft tissues in your throat relax during sleep, partially or completely blocking your airway. This causes pauses in breathing lasting around 10 seconds, reducing oxygen levels and disrupting sleep. Sufferers often feel tired during the day despite sleeping for adequate hours.
These custom-fitted devices gently hold your lower jaw and tongue in a forward position while you sleep. This keeps your airway open, preventing the soft tissue collapse that causes snoring and sleep apnoea episodes.
Yes, we recommend having a formal diagnosis from your GP through an overnight sleep study before starting treatment. This helps us understand the severity of your condition and ensures a sleep appliance is the right solution for you.
Modern sleep appliances are designed for comfort. While there's a short adjustment period, most patients find them easy to wear and much more comfortable than CPAP machines. The Somnowell in particular is known for its slim design and comfort.
With proper care, the Sleepwell and Panthera Classic typically last approximately 2 years. The Somnowell, thanks to its chrome-cobalt construction, is considerably more durable and can last significantly longer. We'll show you how to clean and maintain your appliance for maximum longevity.
