Traditional Braces

Braces have come a long way!

Traditional metal braces are still the most common form of orthodontic treatment – and for good reason. They get great results! What’s more, developments in orthodontic technology have made these braces smaller and more comfortable to wear. By using the latest in orthodontic wire technology our treatments apply the most gentle and efficient forces.

How do braces work?

When most people think of braces, it’s the traditional metal braces they imagine. But how exactly does this type of orthodontic appliance work? Small metal or tooth-coloured ceramic brackets are fixed to the front surface of your teeth (or the back if you’re having invisible lingual braces). These are then connected by precise high-technology wires known as arch wires. Some treatments also incorporate elastic or other components . These combinations apply gentle forces to the teeth in the planned direction to achieve the desired movements that straighten your teeth. These are highly complex miniature mechanical systems that are capable of inducing a large number of simultaneous movements.

Treatment choice

At Orthodontic Excellence, we offer traditional metal braces and tooth – coloured ceramic fixed brace options. The latter work just the same way as metal braces do, the only difference is the brackets are made from ceramic material which matches the colour of your teeth. This makes fixed braces very discreet. We use 3M Clarity Advanced brackets for our ceramic treatments because they are the best ceramic brackets we can source for you.
